Mexico’s specialist in industrial automation equipment recently carried out a packing project installation involving challenging flow equipment. The customer, a multinational in snack and food brands, specified AmbaFlex and for a reason. Not only because of their experience with the low total costs of ownership, but also because they very much appreciated the clever solutions that AmbaFlex provides.
A high-speed line set up to box wafer cookies was proving difficult due to particular space constraints. A traditional solution would not fit, nor could it cope with the high line speed. Therefore a special solution was offered involving the delivery of a total of 11 AmbaFlex Spiral Conveyors to handle a pack-flow of 3 parallel lanes.
AmbaFlex introduced multi-flow transport on an oversized belt in the 1990s as part of a clever integrated solution. If offers enormous savings on any investment as one relatively simple machine can handle multiple, parallel flows in one. In this case, it involves 3 flows of up to 100 packs per minute, so a total of 300 packs per spiral per minute. A special feature of this installation is the speed combined with the multi-flow, a requirement that is being seen more and more with the globalisation of production sites.
The SpiralVeyor® SV600-1600 was chosen as a basis for this solution. Occupying an area of only 2.2 metres square, it is the most compact spiral conveyor with a 600mm wide belt available in the market. A set of 4 guides created 3 lanes of 200mm each. Special attention was given to the guides as the lanes needed to be accessible for maintenance. It was also most important that the stainless steel B-style guides were polished and would leave no marks on the consumer packaging!
